Product Photos at Red Rocks

Here’s a challenge – how often do you get an opportunity to photograph a product with a background so beautiful that it will potentially outshine your subject matter? How do you balance it while telling a story and contextualizing how awesome it is to see the product in use?

Case in point – Red Rocks. Calling Red Rocks beautiful and acoustically grand is an understatement. Its so good at being all of these things that Pollstar had to rename their Best Outdoor Venue Award to The Red Rocks Award because it kept winning it.

From the Eco-Products Press Release – Denver Arts & Venues is partnering with a pair of Colorado companies to compost more of the waste generated at its most prominent venues, including Red Rocks Amphitheater and the Colorado Convention Center.
The environmental program announced Monday brings in Boulder-based Eco-Products and Commerce City-based Alpine Waste & Recycling. Eco-Products, which makes cups and other products that can be composted, will supply the packaging for food and drinks at Red Rocks, the convention center, Denver Coliseum and the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

Alpine Waste & Recycling will pick up all the trash at the venues and process it into streams of recyclable and compostable materials.

This shoot was much more difficult than expected. There was factors like avoiding the runners doing their workout on the stairs and the unpredictable lighting (spotty cloud cover is never fun) as well as a really dramatic angle to capture the stage as a background. Despite these factors, this is a set of photos I’m proud to contribute to Eco-Products.
