American Coot

American Coot

American coot (Fulica americana) are such funny birds. Their oversized cartoon feet matched with their short and stout bodies make them look like the Wildebeest of the bird world. Being extremely common throughout the US, I wonder how often they are overlooked because of their lack of vibrant colors. But take a look closer at these inquisitive little birds!

Should you get a chance be sure to look at their unusually shaped feet. These birds are found on any lake, river, or stream and often intermingled with Mallards and other ducks. They are bold birds and can be found in many urban settings.
