Brown Creeper & Pygmy Nuthatch
Brown Creeper & Pygmy Nuthatch
It was only until John James Audubon was deep into production of the ‘Birds of America’ Havell collection that he realized that it was necessary to combine bird species in order to keep production costs and book down. “Brown Creeper & Pygmy Nuthatch” was one of first combination he created was Brown Creeper (Certhia americana) and Pygmy Nuthatch (Sitta pygmaea), both of which cling to coniferous trees. Audubon combined Brown Creeper & Pygmy Nuthatch to create a dynamic print.
Accurate representation inspired by Audubon’s print layout. Sized to match Harvell edition prints from the double elephant folio edition. Read Audubon’s journal about his encounters.
